The Sacramento Bee provides grants to organizations and programs to build stronger communities and enhance quality of life. We focus our giving in areas where we can make positive social impact while creating unique and lasting imprints throughout the region we serve.
The charitable grant applications are accepted in the Fall for the following calendar year. The application period for 2009 is now closed.

The Bee accepts applications in the following areas:
Arts
The Bee's support focuses on encouraging an appreciation of the visual and performing arts to foster a vibrant arts community.
Children and Families at Risk
The Bee supports programs that help economically and emotionally disadvantaged children and families in our community succeed.
Diversity
The Bee funds organizations dedicated to educating and promoting cultural awareness in an effort to cultivate diversity and inclusion.
Environment
The Bee focuses our charitable efforts toward organizations and programs engaged in preserving and protecting our environment for future generations.
Literacy
The Bee supports innovative programs that address reading and learning with children and adults to create a literate community.
The Application Process
If you would like to apply for sponsorship of a community event, please visit our Event Sponsorship Page for more information or call The Bee's Public Affairs department at (916) 321-1880.
Print the submission page and send it to The Sacramento Bee, Attn: Public Affairs Manager, 2100 Q Street, Sacramento, CA, 95816 and include a copy of your organization's IRS 501(c)(3) ruling and federal tax identification number; recent audited financial statements, income and expense budgets; and project-related support materials (limit 4 pieces).
Charitable contributions from The Sacramento Bee vary in amount, typically from $500-$5,000 depending on the size and reach of the organization. The request, prior funding, and review of application by the Charitable Review Panel will determine contribution amount. Please be advised that charitable contributions are not guaranteed from year to year, and The Sacramento Bee makes every effort to contribute to new organizations within each giving category annually.
Contributions will be awarded only to organizations that are in alignment with the criteria of The Sacramento Bee's programs as outlined above. Charitable contributions will not be considered for individuals, religious organizations, schools, political activities or athletic groups. Organizations must qualify as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and serve the communities where The Bee has a presence.
Applications will be screened by The Sacramento Bee Public Affairs staff and evaluated by the Charitable Contributions Review Panel. Please send one application per program. The application period for 2009 is now closed.
