Guide to The Bee

Public Affairs Programs

Since 1857, The Sacramento Bee has been dedicated to giving back to the community. In addition to our Charitable Giving program, we support the following programs:

Share a Story Children's Book Drive

Each Spring, The Sacramento Bee holds its Share a Story Children's Book Drive to give books to children in need. Thousands of books are collected at numerous sites throughout the region and provided to non-profit agencies that distribute them to children for their homes just in time for summer reading. Click here to visit the Share a Story Web site.

Book of Dreams

Each year since 1987, the Sacramento community has opened its heart to the needy and underserved people in our region. The Bee writes the stories about the dreams of local individuals and organizations, and our readers make those dreams come true. Look for the Book of Dreams in The Bee the day before Thanksgiving. Kids Day

Since 1997, The Sacramento Bee has partnered with The Ben-Ali Shrine and Shriners Hospital for Children Northern California to raise more than $900,000 to help provide medical care for severly injured children. Employees, volunteers and Shriners take to the streets of Sacramento to sell The Sacramento Bee, wrapped in the special Kids Day section, for $1, with 75 cents going to Shriners Hospital. The Bee Book Club

In support of The Bee's commitment to literacy, Bee Book Club events are held throughout the year featuring notable authors from the literary world. Titles are selected by The Bee's features department and highlighted in the Scene section of the paper. These free events allow for personal interaction and a book-signing with the author. Click here to visit the Bee Book Club Web site.

Newspaper programs

The Sacramento Bee has developed many programs that support specific community causes, where a portion of newspaper sales is donated to non-profit organizations to help them achieve their goals. Through these unique programs, thousands of dollars are raised for Ronald McDonald House charities through local McDonald's restaurants and Food for Families at local Raley's and Bel Air stores.

Building tours

Tours of The Bee's facility at 21st and Q Streets in Sacramento are offered year-round on a weekly basis to local schools and civic organizations. The one-hour tour offers a glimpse into the history of The Bee as well as an up-close look at how the daily paper is put together. Minimum age to participate in the tour is eight. To schedule a tour, call (916) 321-1880 or e-mail outreach@sacbee.com.

Speaker's Bureau

As an involved and active corporate partner in the community, The Sacramento Bee is able to provide guest speakers for community events and classrooms. Speakers may address topical news and community issues, as well as business topics such as marketing, sales, advertising or how to get your news in the paper. Speakers are also available to talk about The Bee's history in the Sacramento community as well as the media and publishing industry. To schedule a speaker, call (916) 321-1880 or e-mail outreach@sacbee.com.

Sacramento Workplace Excellence Leader (SWEL) Awards

The Sacramento Bee partners with the Sacramento Human Resources Association to honor companies in our region who exemplify the best in workplace practices.
