Suggested for Grades 4-9
The Sacramento Bee is planning a special three-week unit on the 2008 Presidential Election. Electing a President tells the whole story -- from the conventions to the issues, everything that leads up to pulling the levers in the elcetion booth. Throughout this unit there are many learning activities that link to the newspaper. We've also included a unique learning opportunity with step-by-step instructions for holding a classroom election so that students can "act out" the process to truly comprehend how it all works. Enrolling teachers will receive a special student supplement, a teacher's guide and a special N.I.E. subscription to The Sacramento Bee.
- Student supplement. The 16-page student supplement contains many activities that explain the election process. You'll receive a class set with your newspaper delivery on October 22, 2008.
- Teacher's guide. You'll receive easy online access to the Electing a President teacher's guide, which will help you plan this two-week unit. The teacher's guide will help you introduce the newspaper to your students and reinforce the lessons of Electing a President.
- A special N.I.E. subscription to The Sacramento Bee. We'll deliver class sets of newspapers to your school for three weeks. You'll receive editions of The Bee on these days: October 19 (the Sunday edition with the Voter's Guide, delivered on Monday), 21, 22 (the day your student supplements are delivered), 23, 24, 26 (your Sunday Bees will be delivered on Monday), 28, 29, 30, 31 November 2 (your Sunday Bees will be delivered on Monday), 4 (Election Day), 5, 6 and 7.
