The Sacramento Bee is proud once again to bring your students an opportunity to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
The 27th Annual California Central Valley Spelling Bee is set to begin. The champion will win an all-expense paid trip to Washington, DC to compete in the 2010 Scripps National Spelling Bee.
The California Central Valley Spelling Bee is open to students in grades 3-8 who attend schools in Colusa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Solano, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba counties. Schools interested in competing in California Central Valley Spelling Bee must register through the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Go to www.spellingbee.com to learn more and register. There is a $99 materials and enrollment fee. The enrollment deadline for the 2010 competition was October 16, 2009.
Important Dates 2009-2010
- Oct. 16, 2009: Schools must enroll in the Scripps National Spelling Bee by going to www.spellingbee.com
- Nov- Dec. 2009: Enrolled schools hold local school-wide spelling bees and forward the winner information form to The Sacramento Bee.
- Dec 18, 2010: Late enrollment date. (Subject to late enrollment fee.)
- Dec 20, 2010: Deadline to submit the biography form with the name, address and details of school winner to The Sacramento Bee
- Jan 23, 2010: The Sacramento Bee's preliminary spelling bee (the written bee), Sacramento, CA
- Mar 3, 2010: 27th Annual California Central Valley Spelling Bee, Sacramento, CA
- May, 2010: Scripps National Spelling Bee, Washington, DC

This event is free and open to the public. It is a large event with over 1,000 in attendance. Many champion spellers bring their classrooms to cheer and support them. Parking is free. Classrooms must register with Molly (molly@sacbeemail.com) due to space limitations.
