The Be Water Smart contest was designed to reinforce water awareness at home. The competition for grades K-4 involved students gathering water-saving tips with their parents. Teachers returning the most tips increased the chances of their class being selected in the drawing. The winning classes will receive a visit from Mr. Leaky and prizes by the Regional Water Authority. The winners are:
- Mrs. Louch’s Kindergarten and First Grade Class, Kingswood School, Citrus Heights
- Mrs. Adrian’s First Grade Class, Heron School, Sacramento
- Mrs. Werling’s Second Grade Class, Golden Hills School, El Dorado Hills
- Mrs. Liss’ Fourth and Fifth Grade Class, Hazel Strauch School, Sacramento
- Mrs. Johnston’s Fourth and Fifth Grade Class, Starr King Elementary School, Carmichael
Students in grades 5-8 completed the “Be Water Smart Challenge.” The questions were challenging and required gathering information from various web sites on the Internet. The top three student winners will receive $100 each. Congratulations to these students:
- Diego Gomez, Sixth Grade (Mrs. Rhoads, teacher), Harmon Johnson Elementary School, Sacramento
- Taylor Delp, Seventh Grade (Mrs. Onorato, teacher), Ophir Elementary School, Newcastle
- Kevin Santos, Sixth Grade (Mrs. Brinkley, teacher), Leroy F. Greene Elementary School, Sacramento
We want to thank everyone for participating in The Bee's N.I.E. programs. We also want to thank the Regional Water Authority for sponsoring Be Water Smart. Once again, congratulations to all the winners!
Mr. Leaky visited five schools on May 24, 2007 to present awards to the winners in the K-4 competition. Here are pictures of the winning classes:
