We encourage teachers to take advantage of all the resources and educational services The Bee offers. They include student supplements, teacher guides posted online, teacher guides on CDs, and student competitions.

Student Supplements

Student supplements are tabloid-sized publications written for students. They usually focus on a single topic and have newspaper-based activities. All teachers with a newspaper delivery on the dates below will receive 40 copies of the supplement. Here is the fall 2008 supplement schedule:
  • September 17, 2008 -- Faces of the Future: Hispanics Who Will Influence the World
  • September 23, 2008 -- Weather Wizard (inserted inside the newspaper)
  • October 10, 2008 -- A Journey through the Sacramento River Watershed (inserted inside the newspaper)
  • October 22, 2008 -- Electing a President
  • November 18, 2008 -- What's In a Word
  • December 3, 2008 -- Winter Holidays


Teacher Guides Posted Online

All teachers enrolling in a special or regular N.I.E. program will be able to download any of teacher guides found at the N.I.E. Document Center. Each program comes with its own unique guide, which we post online. Accessing the document center is easy -- simply refer to the instructions that come with your verification letter. Call (916) 321-1785 (enter option two) if you need assistance or have questions.

Teacher Guides On CDs

Teachers enrolling in a regular N.I.E. subscription will receive two CDs containing 51 N.I.E. teacher guides. The CDs has something for everyone. You'll find a wide variety of newspaper-based lessons and classroom activities for all grade levels and in all subject areas, including reading, language arts, social studies, math, science and journalism. Titles on the CDs include:
