The Sacramento Bee's Newspaper in Education (N.I.E.) program promotes literacy, connects students to their community and world, and provides teachers with a powerful educational tool, the daily newspaper. The educational services provided by The Bee are available to teachers at no cost. N.I.E. can make a difference in your classroom!

Introducing the e-Edition

The Sacramento Bee's Newspapers in Education program is going digital starting this fall. The new e-Edition combines the power of the press and the Internet. Online Lessons

Each week The Bee publishes a new online lesson for teachers, students and families who use the Internet and newspaper as learning resources. The lessons are tied to current events in the news and help learners extend their knowledge on a wide range of topics. This week's online lesson is called "American Liberty Revival" a Social Studies/Language Arts lesson for grades 5-8. (read more)


Be Water Smart Winners

The Be Water Smart contest was designed to reinforce water awareness at home. The competition for grades K-4 involved students gathering water-saving tips with their parents. Teachers returning the most tips increased the chances of their class being selected in the drawing. The winning classes will receive a visit from Mr. Leaky and prizes by the Regional Water Authority. (read more)


Roseville Girl Ousted in Seventh Round of Spelling Bee

So much of the Scripps National Spelling Bee is luck -- you know the word given to the speller just before you but not the one delivered when you get to the microphone. Such was the fate with 13-year-old Josephine Kao of Roseville on Friday when, in the seventh round and just 15 spellers between her and the national championship, her luck ran out.

The Bee's Newspaper in Education (N.I.E.) program is a cooperative effort between schools and the newspaper to promote the use of the newspaper as an educational resource. (read more)


Donate to N.I.E

The Sacramento Bee's Newspapers in Education (N.I.E.) provides educational services to more than 1,000 schools in Northern California. Last year The Bee delivered 2,700,000 newspapers to schools, along with educational materials and lesson plans for teachers. We provide newspapers to more the 425,000 students at no cost to students, teachers or schools! (read more)
