Students in grades 9-12 are eligible to participate in the Water Spots Video Contest. Enrolling teachers will receive contest information and an opportunity for your students to win great prizes and to be recognized at Raley Field; a class set of student supplements called "Living Rivers of the Sacramento Valley," and an educational subscription to The Bee online newspaper (optional).
Enrolling teachers will receive:
- Contest information. Your students will have an opportunity to win exciting prizes, including having their video shown on the Raley Field Jumbotron. We are asking high school students to create a 25-second Public Service Announcement (PSA) videos promoting the Regional Water Authority's 2013 water efficiency theme: Check sprinkler systems every month for water-wasting problems and make repairs within 48 hours. Students must be sponsored by a teacher, so your enrollment is very important. We will provide contest information and rules so your students have a competitive edge. There is an opportunity for teachers to also win. The teachers of the students who place first, second and third in the contest will receive a cash award!

Student supplements. This special 20-page supplement, called "Living Rivers of the Sacramento Valley," explains the importance of rivers to us and our region. Rivers provide habitat for many plants and animals. Through their periodic floods, rivers provide rich valley soils. People depend on rivers as a source of food, drinking water, transportation, hydroelectric power, and irrigation for agricultural fields. People use rivers for fun and recreational activities. Rivers are also inspirational. You will receive a class set of this special supplement when you enroll in the Water Spots Video Contest. - An educational subscription. We'll provide The Bee's electronic edition, which will help your students complete the lessons and activities found in the student supplement and in the teacher guides. The e-Edition subscription, which is optional, begins March 4, 2013 and lasts three weeks (Mon-Fri).
