Guide to The Bee

Bee in Education

Education can open up a world of possibilities for children, and make them productive and prosperous results. The Sacramento Bee is a strong supporter of educational programs that benefit the community.

NIE

Newspapers in Education (NIE)

The Sacramento Bee's Newspapers in Education (NIE) program provides teachers, students and parents with innovative tools to teach and motivate students, while having fun with real life activities. Students have the opportunity to learn about the stock market, consumer math, advertising, environmental issues and much more while discovering the connection between the classroom and the real world - via the newspaper. For more information about The Bee's NIE program, click here or call (916) 321-1785

California Central Valley Spelling Bee

Each Spring, the California Central Valley Spelling Bee recognizes the strongest spellers in Colusa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Solano, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba counties. Students who excel in three preliminary rounds will represent the Central Valley in the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. The Sacramento Bee pays for the winner's travel expenses. Click here for more information about the California Central Valley Spelling Bee.

Design an Ad contest

This contest is the longest running program of its kind in the nation. Each year, local businesses buy advertising space and then turn it over to young, inexperienced student designers. Students from throughout the Sacramento area create and enter their ad designs, which are judged by the advertisers and a team of design experts. The best designs are published in a special section of The Bee. Registration begins in the fall and the special section runs in late March. For more information, contact The Bee's NIE program at (916) 321-1785.

Fundraising opportunities

Schools within The Bee's home delivery area can raise money for their school by selling new subscriptions to The Bee. The school will earn money for each new order sold. For more information, please call (916) 321-1690.

Building tours
